The policentric knee, also referred to as “fourbar” knee allows stance phase control through its polycentric axis. At the same time it is easy to bend to initiate the swing phase or to sit down. Another important feature of the polycentric knee is that the length of the leg shortens when a step is taken, reducing the risk of stumbling.
